THE CROWN WILL BE AWARDED AGAIN!

On Saturday, 11 March 2017, the king and queen of the First will be crowned in Grindelwald for the ninth time. They will battle for their titles in the unique “King of the First hill” downhill race.

«King of the First hill» is a race for everyone. This popular downhill race was held every year from 2004 to 2008. Since March 2014, it has formed part of the annual programme.

You can compete in the categories: Ski Men, Ski Women, Snowboard Men, Snowboard Women or FUN. In the FUN category, every competitor with a running time closest to the average running time of the entire FUN category receives a prize. Costumes are encouraged.

Prizes include GoPro cameras, Salomon skis and snowboards, adventure vouchers and many more.

The race is organised on the individual-start format at approx. every 10 seconds.

Training / Inspection

WEDNESDAY, 8 MARCH TO FRIDAY, 10 MARCH 2017

starting at 8.00 h: First Railway in operation
from 10.00 to 16.00 h: Downhill slope inspection. No race descending!
Some gate flags are at the edge of the piste and mark approximately where a gate is located on the course on the day of the race.

Please note: Descending the course under race conditions during the inspection is prohibited and shall result in disqualification.

from 14.00 to 16.00 h: Start numbers allocated in First mountain restaurant

starting at 17.00 h: “King of the First hill” start at the Oberjoch summit station chairlift
from approx. 19.30 h: Ranking announcement with DJ at the Stählisboden finish

Eligible participants must have been born in or before 1998. Licensed skiers are also allowed to take part. Those aged between 16-18 years born in 2001, 2000 and 1999 may only participate with the signature or permission of a legal guardian (please contact the organising committee by email). Participation is limited to 300 people (on a first come, first served basis)!

Ski Men

born in or before 1998 (evaluation: according to time, prizes for 1st to 3rd place)

Snowboard Men

born in or before 1998 (evaluation: according to time, prizes for 1st to 3rd place)

Fun

Costumes encouraged! born in or before 1998 (evaluation: prize for the person closest to the category-average time)

Ski Women

born in or before 1998 (evaluation: according to time, prizes for 1st to 3rd place)

Snowboard Women

born in or before 1998 (evaluation: according to time, prizes for 1st to 3rd place)

Entry Fee

The entry fee is CHF 45 and will be collected directly online (late registration on site is an extra CHF 10).

Team Championship

A team consists of 3 or more participants, whose three fastest times count towards the team’s evaluation. The team may include skiers and/or snowboarders. There is only one team championship category. Prizes for the three fastest teams (3 people per team).

Race Card

Grindelwald-First

The start is at the Oberjoch summit station chairlift. Some check gates must be passed along the way. The remainder of the route can be selected by each participant. It is definitely an advantage to familiarise yourself with the piste, which is still possible if you visit the course before the race. You then arrive at the finish line in Stählisboden. The announcement of the rankings and the crowning of the king and queen will be held at the Après Ride Bar bus stop an hour after the end of the race.

TO THE VALUE OF UP TO CHF 8,000

Attractive prizes await the three fastest women and the three fastest men in the skiing and snowboarding categories, as well as the best teams. There are prizes worth a total of over CHF 8,000. In the Fun category (costumes encouraged), the person who is closest to the category-average time wins a prize.
